Kindergarten DepartmentKG Classroom

The ABS KG department utilizes the New York State standards for early literacy, science, and the mathematics core curriculum.

The mission of the KG Department is to meet the developmental needs of the whole child. We provide experiences that are both challenging and promote social, emotional, physical and academic growth.

Through a combination of developmentally appropriate experiences, guided student activities and student involvement in classroom management, the children are provided with opportunity to develop a positive self-concept and a strong sense of belonging. This enables each child to reach his full potential for success.

Our nurturing Kindergarten department provides an atmosphere in which life-long learners are developed in a safe and secure environment. Students are encouraged to take risks and to share their ideas, thinking, and problem-solving strategies during whole-class lessons; in small group cooperative activities; and on individual projects.

We:

Maintain a safe and inviting environment
Meet with parents on a regular basis
Communicate with staff and parents consistently
Monitor the implementation of the KG curriculum with emphasis on literacy and math
Provide support and staff development opportunities for the KG staff
Work cooperatively with ABS management to accomplish the overall mission of the school
